Promising Pilot with SmartVOG at Sports Clubs

Credenco

Updated: Dec 8, 2024

A digital SmartVOG makes it easier to share with associations and eliminates administrative hassle during verification. During the pilot program, several key questions were explored:

  • Does a SmartVOG Meet a Need?

The answer is a clear yes, especially since it can be easily validated and processed automatically. The pilot revealed that working with a SmartVOG allows for clear and effortless record-keeping. This is particularly beneficial when managing large volumes, significantly reducing administrative burdens.

  • Is the SmartVOG Perceived as Fraud-Resistant?

Thanks to its design and the pilot’s communication strategy, the response is positive: the SmartVOG is considered a potentially secure alternative to traditional methods.

  • What Effort Is Required from Associations or Volunteers?

Associations expressed a desire to integrate SmartVOG functionality with their internal administrative systems to manage volunteer records seamlessly..

Volunteers valued the ability to retrieve their SmartVOG independently and share it with associations at their own discretion. They also appreciated its convenience for personal use, finding it simpler than traditional paper or PDF-based certificates.

A Logical Step in Government Digitalization

The SmartVOG is seen as a logical step in furthering government digitalization. However, clear communication about using the SmartVOG app is essential to ensure smooth adoption..

About the Technology

Platform and Standards: Credenco's platform is designed to issue, share, and verify verifiable credentials like the SmartVOG. It adheres to international W3C standards for Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) systems.

EBSI and eIDAS Compliance: SmartVOG certificates are issued using the EBSI (European Blockchain Services Infrastructure) and comply with eIDAS 2.0, enabling automated validation and processing.

Interoperability: Thanks to its design, the digital SmartVOG is interoperable with systems from other providers. This compatibility extends across the Netherlands, Europe, and globally.;

Looking ahead

The pilot demonstrated that the SmartVOG meets a clear need and offers significant advantages for sports associations. It can also benefit other public organizations and businesses, which collectively process over 1.8 million Certificates of Good Conduct annually for volunteers or staff.

While the solution currently operates independently, it can be seamlessly integrated into existing systems. A phased rollout, possibly by target group, is a logical next step.

This initiative aligns well with recent European regulations on digital wallets and verifiable credentials, making it a promising development for secure digital identity management.
